the Three Poisons

The Three Poisons in Buddhism are greed, aversion and ignorance. The original for greed is often translated as either desire or attachment, and hatred or anger for aversion. Ignorance is sometimes translated as confusion or delusion.

About Me

I am a dharma practitioner and lay renunciant, a writer, reader, and traverser of passages. In what now feels like a past life, I worked as an editor in literary publishing. Now in my 40s and on a pilgrimage to find the right community for monastic ordination. I have recently started identifying as an emerging independent researcher in transpersonal psychology and the convergence of science with dhamma.

You can find me on Mastodon, where I am escaping from big tech to do my part in serving the interests of privacy and digital sovereignty.

My name is Bodhi 心 Paine, I have 3.5 unfinished bachelor degrees, a number of Cert IVs, and my meandering employment journey has ranged from cleaning motel rooms, dish-pigging, deck-handing on a charter-angling boat, WWOOFing, installing luxury gardens with Australian natives, bush regeneration, and I nearly started a career as a mental-health peer-support worker before my marriage broke down and I decided now or never was the time to ordain. That was in late 2024 ~ the process to ordination is unfolding in its own time. The next prospect on my radar is Sāsanārakkha Buddhist Sanctuary in Malaysia, a pre-sectarian monastery in the Early Buddhist tradition.

This website (and infrequent blog) started as a portfolio site when I went back to study creative-writing at uni, so includes an incomplete collection of the creative writing (fiction and non-fiction) I’ve produced and published over the years. For more about that, clock the menus, or here.
